Content creators, writers, and storytellers all need help balancing what they love with what their audience wants to see.

The line between what you love creating and what people want to see can get blurry. I’ve faced this issue for a while now.

My journey:

I started producing content on Instagram, initially writing poems. Later, I switched to content writing, then moved to marketing, followed by graphic design, and eventually product management. Finally, I settled on creating content about finance.

It took a lot of work to know what people were interested in. Initially, I focused on what people wanted to see but found those topics uninteresting. Then, I decided to concentrate on finance, a niche I was passionate about and thoroughly enjoyed writing about.

I struggled to grow an audience while writing about marketing and design, not because I lacked knowledge, but because I wasn’t passionate about those topics.

Content gurus often advise creating content people love seeing, but I disagree. People don’t always know what they want; they fall in love with how you present an idea.

For instance, I sell my audience the idea of the importance of saving, budgeting, and investing. My content centers on my journey and the journeys of those I help every day.

If you’re struggling to find your niche, consider asking yourself these questions:
➡ What’s the one thing I can do, write, or talk about all day without getting tired?
➡ What’s the one thing I see myself developing over time?
➡ What’s the one thing I can continuously provide value for a long period?

The first thing that crosses your mind when answering these questions is likely your niche.

After identifying it, immerse yourself in that community:
➡ Follow and engage with influencers in your niche.
➡ Attend their programs and events.
➡ Buy their products.
➡ Comment on their posts.
➡ Study their journeys from grassroots to success.

This approach will help you build your brand in your chosen niche.
