Am I too spiritual for my workplace?
When having a career and being a child of God are at par
I recently published something on Instagram that really got me thinking. Why do believers live separate lives?
When I mention something “spiritual” to one of my friends, they quickly defend themselves by saying things like “this is real life” or “don’t bring your church stuff here.”
And for a while, I was programmed to think that the only place to talk about spiritual matters was in the church. Apparently, it’s frowned upon to bring Jesus to your place of employment, place of learning, or place of commerce.
I have also questioned whether it is possible to pursue a career while remaining consecrated and dedicated to one’s livelihood. Is holiness only practiced on Sundays?
I thank God for people who have helped me understand differently in recent years that Jesus can be an institutionalized part of our lives. My business brilliance, models, and activities, I feel, are the result of my relationship with God.
As regards holiness, I can’t do business like the rest of the world Monday through Friday and then come to the word on Sunday. It’s such a fake life- an unholy life.
True Christain living is in the fruits and these fruits must show in all I do especially my place of work. I must preserve my spirituality on work days as much as on Sundays.
So, yes I can be a fire-branded Christain and be a C-suite professional and business tycoon without jeopardizing my relationship with God.
Praise kabashing at prayer meetings is still the same Praise in her workplace dishing out excellence at work. My Christainity is not an excuse to be a slob at work.
No part of my life do I dim for the other to shine. No part of my life is silenced for the other to echoe.
In all, Jesus must be glorified.
But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you — from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.
1 Peter 2:9-10 (MSG)
